1/10 vs 1/24 RC Crawlers: Which Scale Fits?

Compare 1/10 and 1/24 RC crawlers by trail access, obstacle size, storage, battery, parts, display and the space where you plan to drive.

Quick answer

A 1/24 crawler is easier to store and can use a compact indoor course, while a 1/10 rig is larger and better suited to outdoor trail obstacles built for its footprint. Scale alone does not determine capability: tires, gearing, ground clearance and axle setup matter. Our RC crawler buying guide explains the other specs to compare.

Choose crawler scale around the obstacles and storage you actually have. A small truck is portable and can crawl over household-scale obstacles; a larger model needs more room but works with larger terrain features.

Shop the vehicle, not only the scale

Scale is a rough size label, not a performance guarantee. Compare wheelbase, tire diameter, ground clearance, steering angle, gearing and parts support on the exact crawler. If possible, look at the vehicle beside a ruler and compare its dimensions to the course you plan to use.

Pick 1/24 when portability and small-course driving lead. Pick 1/10 when your normal terrain has full-size obstacles and you have room to carry and maintain the truck. See the crawler buying guide for ready-to-run contents, axles and batteries.

Common questions

Can a 1/24 crawler drive outside?

Yes, on terrain and obstacles that match its size and the vehicle's ground clearance. Small rocks, roots and gaps can be oversized obstacles for a micro rig.

Is a 1/10 RC crawler better for beginners?

It may be easier to handle on a full-size trail setup, but it needs more transport and storage space. Choose around where you can drive and maintain it.

Can 1/10 and 1/24 crawler parts interchange?

Generally, parts are scale- and model-specific. Confirm the exact model number and compatible part listing before ordering.
