A 2S pack has two cells connected in series and a higher pack voltage than a 1S pack; the vehicle, ESC and motor must be rated for that pack. Compare the exact model's approved cell count, connector, dimensions and charger chemistry and cell-count settings. Our RC LiPo guide explains balance charging and care.
Cell count changes the voltage the power system receives. The safe choice is the cell count specified for the exact vehicle, ESC and motor combination, not the largest pack that fits the tray.
Side by side
| 1S | 2S | |
|---|---|---|
| Pack layout | One cell in series | Two cells in series |
| Voltage | Lower pack voltage | Higher pack voltage than 1S of the same chemistry |
| Typical compatibility check | Vehicle’s approved 1S range and connector | ESC and motor approval for 2S, plus battery-tray dimensions |
| Charging | Charger must support LiPo and the pack’s cell count | Charger and balance function must support a 2S LiPo |
Read the manual before changing packs
Check the vehicle manual, ESC specifications and battery dimensions. Verify that the pack’s chemistry, cell count, connector and discharge rating fall within every component’s requirements. A plug adapter only changes the connector; it does not make a higher-voltage pack electrically compatible.
Follow the pack and charger manuals for charge settings, storage and damaged-pack handling. The RC LiPo guide explains cell count, balance charging and when to retire a pack.

Common questions
Can I upgrade a 1S RC vehicle to 2S?
Only if the manufacturer lists 2S as supported for the exact vehicle and its electronics. Do not infer compatibility from a matching connector or battery-tray fit.
Does 2S mean twice the runtime?
No. Cell count alone does not determine runtime. Capacity, current draw, vehicle efficiency, driving style and battery condition all affect it.
Can one charger charge both 1S and 2S packs?
Some chargers support multiple cell counts, but verify the exact chemistry, connector, balance lead and selectable cell count in the charger manual before use.
